Below the Belt "Beautification"
Labiaplasty (labia reduction surgery) is becoming more popular as social acceptance of Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery continues toward mainstream. Labia reduction surgery is becoming as common today as other cosmetic procedures, including tummy tucks and breast augmentation. New advancements and techniques in labiaplasty typically lessen scarring, pain, recovery time, and show excellent results.
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to trim down and shape the inner lips (labia minora) or outer lips (labia majora) of the vagina or both. Labiaplasty is for women who have a problem with large labia, asymmetric labia or related female genital issues. In some instances, women with large labia can experience pain during intercourse, or feel discomfort during everyday activities or when wearing tight-fitting clothing. Others may feel unattractive or embarrased, or wish to enhance their sexual experiences by removing some of the skin that covers the clitoris. These problems are the result of genetic predisposition, aging, sexual intercourse or childbirth. Labiaplasty permits the reduction of large labia (labia minora and labia majora) to reduce their outward appearance and correct misshapenness or irregularities.
How is Labiaplasty Performed?
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure performed using twilight anesthesia. The procedure generally lasts 1 - 2 hours. In most cases a simple trimming of the redundant lips followed by closing the incision in layers is all that is needed. Sometimes, for the labia majora, liposuction is used as well.
Recovery:
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure usually performed under local anesthesia. After surgery, women may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappears completely after 1-2 weeks. Sexual relations can usually be resumed in 3 to 4 weeks. Labial incisions usually heal and are rarely noticeable. Most patients may return to work in 3 to 5 days.
Risks: are relatively minor and will be discussed during your consultation. Call us today to schedule your free evaluation.
