Breast Thermal Imaging
Current methods used to detect breast cancer depend primarily on the combination of both physical examination and mammography. While this approach has become the mainstay of early breast cancer detection, mortality from this disease has gone relatively unchanged for 40 years. The United States Preventative Services Task Force recently noted that mammograms are expensive, have an unsatisfactory rate of false positives and show a poor sensitivity in detecting breast cancer in younger women. This suggests that mammograms are overused and, at times, ineffective in preventing breast cancer. Efforts must be directed at detecting breast cancer at its earliest stage. Consequently, the addition of BREAST THERMAL IMAGING to the frontline of early breast cancer detection is good news for women.
The use of Breast Thermal Imaging is based on the principle that chemical and blood vessel activity in both pre-cancerous tissue and the area surrounding a developing breast cancer is almost always higher than in normal breast tissue. Breast tumors increase blood flow to their cells by opening existing blood vessels and creating new ones (neoangiogenesis). This process frequently results in an increase in regional surface temperatures of the breast. BREAST THERMAL IMAGING uses ultra-sensitive infrared cameras and sophisticated computers to detect, analyze, and produce high-resolution diagnostic images of these temperature variations. Because of Breast Thermal Imaging's extreme sensitivity, these temperature variations may be among the earliest signs of breast cancer and/or a pre-cancerous state of the breast.
What Makes Breast Thermal Imaging So Unique ?
Unlike mammography and some other imaging modalities, BREAST THERMAL IMAGING does not require radiation, compression, contact, or intravenous injection. As such, BREAST THERMAL IMAGING is a very comfortable procedure which poses absolutely NO health risks to the patient.
Certain types of cancers will not be detected (approximately 20%) by mammography for various reasons, but many of such cancers will be discovered by BREAST THERMAL IMAGING.
Difficulties in reading mammograms can occur in women who are on hormone replacement, nursing, or have fibrocystic, large, dense, or enhanced breasts. These types of breast differences do not cause difficulties in reading digital infrared scans.
The Breast-Tooth Connection
We have found from the hundreds of images that we have performed that there is a connection between dental health and breast disease. Silver fillings and cavitations both cause inflammation, increased flooding of the lymph ducts and nodes of toxic substances may migrate toward the breasts. For this reason, we always add images of the mouth, jaw and head to the breast imaging process.
The thermographers at TIFM receive extended training from various institutions around the country. When abnormalities are found with thermal imaging appropriate referrals are made to help our patients address the problem safely and quickly. What is Electrodermal Screening?
Electrodermal Screening (EDS) unites 21st century technology with the ancient healing arts of acupuncture. EDS was first developed 50 years ago in Germany and is now estimated to be used by more than 100,000 medical doctors and health care practitioners around the world. It uses computerized technology that sends a very small electrical current through energetic pathways in the body, called meridians. These meridians pass through specific organs and tissues. They regulate the flow of the current that passes through them. By measuring the flow, we can get a functional picture of those tissues, whether they are in a balanced or healthy state, whether they are stressed or inflamed, or whether they are weakened and degenerative. With this technology, we receive an unusually revealing assessment of the body's state of health. Not only that, but EDS can also help determine the most appropriate remedial steps for restoring the body to a state of health and energetic balance.
Many medical practitioners are now becoming familiar with this technology and use it on a daily basis in their practice. The use of this valuable diagnostic tool will likely increase because of the public's growing demand for an integrative and functional medicine approached to health care. We are experts at utilizing this modality to assist us with diagnosing and treating you in a more comprehensive manor. We encourage you to contact us for an evaluation today.
